Rt Hon John Hayes MP, Minister for Transport: ‘Devolution – empowering communities to plan & deliver 21st Century Infrastructure?’

19th March 2015

‘Devolution – empowering communities to plan & deliver 21st Century Infrastructure?’ was a high-profile evening panel event exploring the current planned policy blueprint for devolved infrastructure in the UK. In his keynote the Minister for Transport currently overseeing the Infrastructure Bill set out his vision for infrastructure delivery in the context of devolution, and announced the creation of Regional Road Academies and a new Ministerial Infrastructure Taskforce.

Following the keynote, an expert panel examined the likely implications, risks and opportunities which devolution of powers away from Whitehall will have on long-term infrastructure investment and planning, and the role of cities in delivering the 21st century infrastructure the UK needs.

The panel consisted of:

  • Alexander Jan, Infrastructure Director, Arup
  • Michael Davis, Chief Executive, UK Commission for Employment and Skills
  • Professor David Gann, Vice President, Development and Innovation, Imperial College London
  • Sean McKee, Director of Policy and Public Affairs, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry
