Technology, Business and Growth: Next steps for the UK economy

ResPublica Private Conference

It is generally recognised that ICT and the innovation it encourages plays an important contributory role to achieving strong economic growth. The industry contributes directly as businesses in their own right but more importantly by helping other businesses to use technology to increase their own productivity.

As part of ResPublica's 'New Economies, Innovative Markets' workstream, one of the three core workstreams of the ResPublica Trust, this event has explored the potential for technology to enable, and indeed transform, small and medium-sized businesses to be key players in UK growth.

The following speakers opened the session with keynote presentations:
  • The Rt Hon David Willetts MP, Minister of State for Universities and Science
  • Gordon Frazer, Managing Director, Microsoft UK
  • Piers Linney, Joint CEO, Outsourcery
  • Chris Ingle, Consulting and Research Director, International Data Corporation
The event was then followed by a panel discussion, joined also by:
  • Stian Westlake, Executive Director, Policy and Research, NESTA (Chair)
  •  Liam Maxwell,  ICT Futures Programme Director, Cabinet Office
  • Tim Cowen, ResPublica Fellow and Partner of Sidley Austin
  • Rajeeb Dey, Founder of Enternships.com

The event took place on Wednesday 11th January 2012 and had valuable feedback from senior policy makers and industry professionals. For further details, please contact Annalisa Plachesi, Events and Partnerships Co-Ordinator at annalisa.plachesi@respublica.org.uk
