Age of Opportunity: Older people, volunteering and the Big Society

Latest report from ResPublica

On Monday 3rd October, ResPublica launched our latest report, entitled 'Age of Opportunity: Older people, volunteering and the Big Society'.

Written by ResPublica Associate Antonia Cox, the report, produced in conjunction with Independent Age, demonstrates that older people are already a fundamental part of the government's Big Society vision and considers how their level of engagement can be maintained and increased.

The report also considers the role government must play to make its plans for the Big Society an integrated and functional part of every community.

Speaking at the Conservative Party Conference fringe event at which the report was launched was Nick Hurd MP, Minister for Civil Society.  The report was also discussed at a fringe event at Liberal Democrat Party Conference, which was attended by Catherine Bearder MEP.

There are a lot of great points here, but I"m not sure I agree with real-time search being discarded. I agree that it"s not very relevant, but isn"t the point of it to show what people are currently saying about a topic.

Older people already make a positive and wholly disproportionate contribution to our society ( I read about this on last minute ferien malediven )by volunteering, charitable giving and helping to maintain the values and principles underpinning our civic society.

I think that old people have their own involvement in this process and they also plays an important role in this, we should not underestimate them.

The economy in freefall: the Big Society in reality. University enrollments down 15% : the Big Society in reality. Incomes cut (except for the very rich) cut: the Big Society in reality. Instead of running Europe (the foreign policy that for 200 years created our wealth and place in the world) cut our ties with the largest trading bloc in world (EU 37% of the worlds GDP, China 8%, USA 22%): the Big Society in reality. And they declare "Older people undervalued in the Big Society!
Wonk-think or what?
