On The Eve Of Our Launch
Here we go...
At ResPublica we are hugely excited about the official launch of our think tank. We have been overwhelmed by the interest shown and look forward to having a really good time and commencing our work with a flourish. In advance of all that, here is a small selection of some of the nice things that some of the newspapers have said about us so far:
“Also awaiting official launch is ResPublica, the new think tank lead by the much vaunted Cameronite thought-leader, Philip Blond…. Just occasionally, think tanks give us a flavour of the future — and ResPublica should give the entire public sector food for thought.” - Paul David Evans, 'The Guardian'
“…Blond’s vision of a more civilised, respectful, equal and gentle society must be extremely attractive to voters on both the Left and Right.” – Ed West, 'The Telegraph'
“Phillip Blond, who has become one of the Conservatives' most influential figures, will appear alongside the Tory leader to argue that Britain's fractured society must be rebuilt around community values… Launching his think tank, ResPublica, with the Tory leader on Thursday, he will say ordinary working people have been crowded out from wealth and entrepreneurship by a 'libertarian' understanding of free markets.” – James Chapman, 'The Daily Mail'
“The Conservative leader will be at the launch to lend authority to the thinker nicknamed David Cameron's "philosopher-king"… He is seen in Cameron's circles as a thinker who is at least asking the right sort of questions.”- Andy McSmith, 'The Independent'
“Red Toryism, as portrayed by 43-year-old Mr Blond, contains a number of elements which chime with Mr Cameron's own views and those of his main ideas man, Steve Hilton… Oliver Letwin, the man writing the next Tory manifesto, says: 'Blond's work is seminal. He's one of the most exciting thinkers around.'” - Edward Heathcoat Amory, 'The Daily Mail'

I hope that you have a successful launch and many happy years of successful thinking. I am sure that, in spite of press comments, you will not become too devoted to Plato's concept of rule by elite philosopher kings, or too indulgent of his support for their permitted use of the royal lie.
If you ever have any spare capacity at any time, perhaps you might consider how we can develop a new vision for Europe that could be be more acceptable to the UK electorate (and of course the Dutch, the French and the Irish, who have all rejected the Lisbon constitution in referendums).
Perhaps if we could replace the long established drive towards complete integration by a search for better forms of cooperation, and ease back a bit on the imposition of Rhennish capitalism, a greater degree of popular support might be found.
Best wishes,
Philip Slater
Are we at last seeing a return of pre-Thatcher conservatism with a focus on organic society, tradition and localism? If so, some of us have waited a long time this to be taken seriously again (instead of the liberal monetarism of Thatcher).
Just out of interest who is financing this organisation.
Hooray The return of Genuine Conservatism. Shopkeepers return to your shops.
Good luck. Hope it goes well.
